POSITIVE/NEGATIVE SPACE

Positive space refers to the main focus of the picture, while negative space refers to the background.

When creatively using positive and negative space together, one can tell a story by using visual composition alone.

In this example the white subject represents the positive space, whereas the black area represents the negative space.
